The thesis is dedicated to research of the problem of formation and application of the system of checks and balances as a way of organization and functioning of state power in Ukraine. There are new theoretical issues of notion, essence and purpose of the system of checks and balances; features, structure, classification, forms methods and procedures of above mentioned system's realization; the most general elements which belong to the system of checks and balances are given in the dissertation. The complex of propositions with regard to the improvements of the system of checks and balances are grounded, the ways of interaction, coordination and cooperation of branches of power in the mechanism of state power according to the Constitution of Ukraine are defined.
