A circular cylindrical shell with local defects. The construction of an approximate analytical solution of the stability problem of an axially compressed circular cylindrical shell with local defects. Methods of research are perturbation and variation methods. An asymptotic approach is proposed and new analytical formulas are obtained for the buckling load reduction factor. It was shown that the local thickness defects in shell reduce the buckling load. The spheres of usage are machine-building and construction
