Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the development of the ethnomusicological studies in the field of Jewish folklore in Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. The Hassidic musical tradition in Podolya and Volyn regions is examined as the main object of Jewish folklorists activity. The ways of creation of the notion "Jewish music", "Jewish folk songs" are investigated in this work. The researcher reconstructs the history of the ethnographic expeditions of the territory of Volyn and Podolya regions.
