Essay

The thesis is devoted to improvement of the Ascanian Meat-Wool sheep by the method of profound selection in small closed populations developed by Dr (Agric. Sc.) P.I.Polska (1990). The ram producing core of the Ascanian Crossbred and Ascanian Black-Headed sheep have no analogues in the world practice by the level of universal production (meat, milk, and wool) in combination with high reproductive ability, multiparity, and precocity, as well as adaptation ability with high characteristics of long crossbred wool of low thinness has been improved. They are the state im-proving gene pool both to create new breeds or types and to form a competitive sheep breeding industry in Ukraine.
