The dissertation concerns the faunistics, morphology and systematics of the picture-winged flies of the Palaearctics. Based upon new material, Palaearctic fauna composition, morphology and geographical distribution are analysed. A new classiphication of the family is proposed. Certain genera are revised. A detailed review of economic importance of the picture-winged flies is provided. Keys to subfamilies, tribes, all genera and species of Palaearctic Ulidiidae.
