Thesis deals with the elaboration of the problems of history of Ukraine in the 14th century - middle of the 17th century in "Ukrainian historical journal" and defining of its importance in the development of Ukrainian historiography of the second part of the Middle Ages. Social preconditions, official measures dealt with foundation of the journal, peculiarities of its functioning in the sixties - beginning of the seventies are analyzed on the basis of archives materials, most part of which is used for the first time.
