Essay

The analysis of distribution, numbers, biocenose links, feeding and breeding aspects of Sand Martin (Riparia riparia) in the South of Ukraine is given in the thesis. It was established that the species numbers are stable and high, most birds (70%) are breeding along the rivers. Levels of the breeding site fidelity, phyloparty, emigration and immigration were estimated in the different types of breeding colonies. Demography of the species was investigated: the mortality was 60-74%, the average duration of females' life was 0.85 of the year, and males' one - 1.17, the age of the first breeding was less than 1 year, etc. Sand Martin is analysed as colonial species.
