Essay

The purpose of the work is to improve efficiency of diagnostics and staging of lung cancer by means of CT, helical scan CT, MRI. Investigation is based on the results of examination of 146 patients, among them 110 ones with lung cancer. On the basis of comparison of the result of examination and those of surgical operations and pathomorphology CT- and MRI- semiotica of tumours were studied, more exactly were defined criterions of tumour invasion in organs and structures of mediastinum and chest wall, metastatic affection of interchest lymphatic nodes. From the results obtained it is defined that in spite of the rather high CT accuracy in diagnostics and staging of lung cancer it is inferior to that of CTA and MRI in determining of lung cancer spreading of stages III and IV, for it cannot differentiate tumour itself and cardiovascular structures of mediastenium and lung hilar. At the same time MRI is inferior to CT and CTA in defining lung cancer of stages I-II due to low spatial resolution and dynamic artefacts. As a result of work done the scientifically grounded algorithms for diagnostics and staging of lung cancer were developed.
