The object of investigation the novelistic fiction and the novel "The Rainbow above waste ground" by B.Lepky, short stories, the novel "In Dripping Streams" by V.Orkan in a contet of renewing the epic genres in European literatures during the period when these writers lived and worked under the same socio-political conditions. Methods: biographical, comparative-historical, genetic-functional and typological. The results of investigation can be used in teaching students of philological departments in courses of foreign literature, Ukrainian literature and special courses of comparative literary critics.
