Essay

The thesis presents a complete set of convergent and divergent features in the semantic structure of spatial and quantitative adjectives (SQA) compared, this set laying the foundation for contrastive and typological description of Ukrainian and Persian with other languages. The results of the nominative test of Ukrainian and Persian informants show less dependence of the Ukrainian language on the observer's position. The linguistic interview with speakers of the languages analyzed proves that discrepancies in the meanings of the words within each microgroup of Ukrainian and Persian SQA depend on the following factors: 1) the choice of semantic components with regard to particular aspects of the signifying macrocomponent in the lexical meaning of adjectives; 2) the actualization of microcomponents within the empiric macrocomponent of the lexical meaning of adjectives, i. e. differences in segmentation of the semantic axis of "the objects"; 3) selective combinability of microcomponents within signifying and empiric macrocomponents of the lexical meanings under analysis. As a result, the contrastive analysis reveals typologically relevant features of spatial and quantitative objects in Persian and Ukrainian.
