The antioxidant action of rhodanine (2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone) and of its derivatives in the processes of radical-chain oxidation of such organic compounds as ethylbenzene, twin-80, sunflower-seed oil by molecular oxygen has been elucidated. There have been found to be the difference in the inhibitory action of rhodanines in dependence of their structure. 3-R-Rhodanines (R = -H, -NH2, -Ph) having no radical activity do not break oxidation chain. In high temperature autooxidizing hydrocarbon their antioxidant action is connected with suppression of degenerative chain-brancing reaction. 5-Hydroxybenzylidenrhodanines reveal combinative inhibitory action. Antiradical rhodanine activity in respect to diphenylpicrylhydrazyl correlates with rhodanines activity in reaction with ethylbenzene peroxyradicales. The role of rhodanines-hydroperoxide interacion in the inhibition by that compounds of oxidizing organic substanses have been found. Antioxidant activity of rhodanines in the processes of oxidizing complex oiltypegenic systems (twin-80, sunflower-seed oil) have been studied. There have been found to be the series of peculiarities in the behaviour antioxidants studied. The results of dissertation аlow conclusion about practicability of using rhodanines as novel high effective inhibitors of radical-chain processes of oxidizing organic substances to be made.
