Object of research is lexical nominations and utterances of the present-day English language that belong to the unified cognitive-semantic space of lying/ deception. Aim of research is to define the regularities of verbalization of the concept of lying in the present-day English language via its prototypical modeling, and analysis of the peculiarities of its discourse realization. Results and novelty: 1) the attempt of prototypical modeling of the verbalized concept of lying, of describing the characteristics of prototype lying and its marginal variations in the English language is undertaken for the first time; 2) for the first time the pragmatical peculiarities of the verbalized concept of lying in English language are described systematically; 3) the social variables in the situations of deliberate distortion of the real state of affairs are investigated; 4) the gender variation peculiarities of the means of the concept of lying verbalization in the English language are analyzed; 5) the speech strat egies by the means of which the verbalized concept of lying is realized in the English discourse are analyzed and systemized.
