The dissertation deals with the research of the essence of major historical and philosophical ideas of Ukrainian Romanticism (P. Kulish and M. Kostomarov). The author traces the spiritual similarity of the West-European and Ukrainian Romanticism. The dissertation also follows national peculiarities of Ukrainian Romanticism, which is defined by the pro-Ukrainian orientation of P. Kulish's and M. Kostomarov's creative heritage and the way of raising issues related with Ukrainian people's ethnic separation, its very existence, national roots, the Ukrainian language, culture, the necessity of creating a sovereign state and winning independence.
