Essay

Effects of monoamines and testosterone both on the developing electrical activity of hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (AN) and morphology of testis and AN neurocytes during maturation in birds were tested. Catecholamines are determined to cause earlier puberty via a-, not b-adrenoreceptors; serotonin and dopamine cause some delay in maturation. Morning and evening melatonin treatment at low dose as well as evening melatonin treatment at high dose seem to activate hypothalamic-gonadal axis, while evening high-dose melatonin injections had no influence on gonads. The clear correlation was found between AN spectral power in d-, O-, a-frecuencies and size of AN neurocytes' nuclei.
