The dissertation is concerned with the investigation of the valency, paradigmatics and usage of the English modal particles. The problem of modality, the basic principles of word division into parts of speech, the etymology of modal particles, their modal peculiarities and principles of classification are consecutively studied.The thesis deals with the comparative analysis of syntagmatic ties and paradigmatic relationships of the investigated words, also the peculiarities of modal particles usage are compared in author's style.
