The dissertation is devoted to the research of the training at higher educational institutions). Functions and types of evaluation of students' knowledge, skills and abilities have been researched from the historical perspective. The concept and essence of evaluation has been considered by the structural and logical method. The current state of student academic progress module-rating evaluation at higher educational institutions of different types has been analyzed. Feasibility of testing as a basic element of module-rating evaluation has been researched and substantiated. The results of the it possible to intensify, individualize, and differentiate academic progress and improve its effectiveness.
