The object of investigation: adjectives denoting a person's appearance in Modern English. The aim is the study of the semantic, quantitative characteristics and combinability of the adjectives denoting human appearance. The methods used: the method of distributional analysis, statistical analysis, the intuitive-logic method. The quantitative data concerning frequence use and volume, range and intensity of combinability of the semantic subclasses of the investigated English adjectives have been determuned for the first time
