The study focuses on the research of argumentation in the American jury process, with due regard to numerous extralingual factors that affect the choice of language means of argumentation. Correlation between logical and emotional components of agrumentation is established, and the criteria of reliability and truth in argumentation are addressed. Observance of maxims of argumentation in judicial discouse is analyzed. The study proves that due to the influence of extralingual factors argumentation in the American jury process has an irrational nature. The main arguments in American judicial discourse are analyzed, and specific features of their verbalization are defined. The study also focuses on linguistic peculiarities of application of the most widespread tactics and devices of judicial argumentation. Attention is paid to the research of rhetorical means of argumentation.
