Yerko O. Topicality and Artistic Peculiarities of Richard Wilbur's Poetry.

The object of the research is the poetry of Richard Wilbur. The dissertation is the first attempt in Ukrainian literary criticism to research the artistic peculiarities of Richard Wilbur's creative work. His poetry is viewed in the context of the "academic" trend in American literature. The study elucidates the specific features of Wilbur's poetics, topicality, composition and conceit system. It determines the main literary traditions affecting his poetry, namely the influence of the metaphysical poetry and the poetry of romanticism. Wilbur's stylistic idiosyncrasies are compared with those of the American XX century "avant-garde" poets. The specifics of intellectual basis and the realization of the philosophical category of time in Wilbur's poetical texts is profoundly studied. The results of the research can be widely used in lectures, seminars and specialised courses on literature and practice of translation.
