Essay

The paper deals with a psycho-pedagogical analisis of social perception as a whole and mutual understanding between teachers and students in the educational process. It is determined that the communication process between teachers and students is characterized by pedagogical conflicts of three types: educational conflicts, conflicts of expectations and conflicts of personal incompatibility. A difference is identidied between teachers' and students' assessment of the frequency of conflicts of each type. It is explained by different estimations of the same psychological situation that may come up in the process of their contacts. Once students might perceive the situation to be a conflict, teachers might not - thus not understanding reponses from the students in such situations. As a rule, the educational process is the factual reason for such conflicts. The results of the forming stage of investigation devoted to improving mutual understanding in the "teacher-student" system are analyzed. A draft programme of socio-psycological training is used for the correction of inter-personality relationships in the "teacher-student" system. The training aims to form a new style of communication between teachers and students in the "subject-object-subject" system in which mutual understanding is the key condition for their advanced skills.
