Essay

The Dissertation is devoted to the analyze of the aspects of US foreign policy toward Taiwan in 1990-ies taking into consideration the evolution of US strategy in East Asia in 1990-ies. The formation of Taiwan issue is investigated. During the "Cold War" period US has been intended to support Taiwan as one of the key point in realization of the strategy of "containment and isolation of People's Republic of China (PRC) and communism" in Asia. In the 90-ies the US government has been concentrated on the stability of strategic relations with PRC government. At the same time Congress has been attempted to arise the status of relations with Taiwan. The Officials of B.D.Clinton administration persisted in theirs opinion of developing relations with Beijing according to the strategy of "comprehensive enlargement"/ The Taiwan political transformation to multi-party democracy and the raise of "China threat" problem paid steady attention to Taiwan. The major problem over Taiwan separating USA and PRC is the rights of Taiwan to decide its future by itself.
