Essay

Subject of investigation: 8 strains of Ralstonia solanacearum. Object of investigation: studing the relationship of biological activity of lipopolysaccharides on their composion and structural peculiarities. Methods: microbological, biochemical, immunological. Results: the broad systematic investigation of LPSs; analysis of fatty acids gave a possibility to divide strains tested into 2 groups: the first group was represented by strains wich LPS contain hydroxy-fatty acids with 12-18 carbon atoms in their chain, and the second one was characterized by shorter length of chain; the strains were divided into 5 serogroups on the basis of LPS specificity; it has been showed that investigatin LPS strains had bimodal distribution: S-LPS and R-LPS; zones of serological ativity of LPS were indicated (S-, SR- and R-LPS); on the basis of LPS pyrogenicity and toxicity strains were divided into 2 group: more and less pyrogenic and toxic; UV-impact of LPS solutions showed the antigenic activity of LPS correlated withtime of irradiation; modification of lipid A by O-,N-,O-deacylation and dephosphorylation causes the complete loss of their toxicity and pyrogenicity.
