Essay

The dissertation focuses on structural, semantic and pragmatic peculiarities of Newsweek informative microtext headlines. The integration of the three aspects allows to determine the role of the headline in presenting text information. The study analyzes the structural models used in informative microtext headlines. The functions performed by the headlines receive their further specification. The role of headlines in text semantic organization is revealed, their semantic types are given. Logical and semantic relations between the headline and the text are established. Pragmatic types of headlines are studied in the "addresser-addressee" communicative system. The criteria and conditions for transposition of headline pragmatic types are determined. The new data about functional directionality of the headlines expressed by ironic speech acts testify to the influence of the latter on the addressee's perception of the information.
