Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the research into the development of economic science in Kyiv University in the 19-th - early 20-th century. A specific attention is given to studying social and economic preconditions for emerging the chair of political economy and statistics in Kyiv University, its formation and development. In 1909 a chair of statistics was established. Scientific heritage of leading economists of Kyiv University has been analysed. Their great contribution into the development of world and national economic theory, the history of economic sciences as separate branches of scientific knowledge and academic subjects have been studied and substantiated. The creation of Ukrainian economic school of marginalism pioneered by M.N. Bunge, D.I. Pikhno and others has been elucidated as the most significant achievement of Kyiv University science in the last three decades of the 19-th century. The work has discovered the role of scientists, outstanding economists of the University in moulding and educating many generations of Ukrainian economic scientific elite, in creating the each scientific ground on which Ukrainian economists won world recognition in the first two decades of the 20-th century (M.I. Tuhan-Baranovsky, O.D.Bilimovych, Ye.Ye.Slutskiy, R.M.Orgenetskiy and others).
