Essay

Surface polaritons (SP) in two-dimensional electron systems (2DES) and semimagnetic semiconductors (SMS). To investigate theoretically SP in the 2DES formed on basis of GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs heterojunctions and under the conditions of the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE), and also SP in SMS which are in a phase of antiferromagnetic ordering. Methods of research are analytical and numerical analysis of dispersion relations for SP. The existance of surface Brewster mode and the bulk polaritons has been predicted in GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs heterojunctions. A new noncontact method for determining the parameters of the magnetic subsystem of the SMS based on the SP exitation is suggested. The existence of nonlinear SP in the SMS has been predicted. Sphere of use is microelectronics, spectroscopy and technology.
