Essay

The work is based on the results of investigation and treatment of 113 children with traumatic intracranial hematomas (TICH). In the work the age features of the course of TICH in children are described. A detailed analysis of neurologic signs and rates of their development was made, the diagnostic and prognostic value of the basic signs was analysed. It is revealed, that the injured with early occurrence of meningeal signs represent a special group of patients described by an extremely serious course of the disease with specific features. A hypothesis on the possible features of the pathogenesis of development of disease in the given patients was put forward. The analysis of focal signs and their importance in evaluating the side of hematoma is made in the absence of the CT data. It is revealed, that in the presence anaemia in the injured the volume of a hematoma on CT appears smaller than it is really. The variants of development of various kinds of hematomas were described based on CT scans. The possibility of favorable outcome of epidural hemorrhages without surgical intervention is specified. The analysis of conservative and surgical treatment of TICH is made, rational approaches to treating TICH in children are offered. The remote outcomes of TICH and computed tomography scans were studiedat various time intervals after injury. Terms of retrogress of neurologic symptomatology were defined.
