Essay

Clinical and diagnostic peculiarities of respiratory infections in children suffering from bronchial asthma have been studied. The peculiarities of microbiological and cytological composition of bronchial contents in children with bronchial asthma have been established and compared to those in healthy children. The prevalence of bacterial and "atypical" (intracellular) respiratory infections in children with bronchial asthma has been investigated. The presence of bacterial infection served as an indicator for the administration of antibacterial preparations. In case of "atypical", Gram-positive or Gram-negative coccal flora, spiramycin was prescribed; when Gram-negative pathogenic flora was present, cephotaxim was administered. Antibacterial preparations caused elimination of the causative agent and more rapid remission. Catamnestic observations testify to the fact that antibacterial therapy decreases the rate of aggravations by 39.4%.
