Essay

The object is optical-physical properties of solid media. The aim is study of 2D distribution of optical anisotropy parameters in transparent media with non-homogeneities of distinct origin. The methods are imaging polarimetry and numerical simulation using Jones formalism. The laboratory prototype of automated imaging polarimeter was constructed. The distributions of optical anisotropy parameters were obtained and stress tensor components distributions in the stressed glass disk were reconstructed. Optical indicatrix orientation in the neighbouring domains was measured in Rochelle salt and lead orthophosphate crystals and crystal splitting on domains in the transmission direction was detected. For the first time the gradient thermooptical effect in the lithium niobate crystals was experimentally detected and its phenomenological description was proposed. Sphere of use is optical material science and instrumentation, non-destructive testing and diagnostics.
