Essay

Cossack seals of Hetmanate were studied on the basic of a new received original sources. They are: state administrative court, Cossack foremen, ordinary Cossacks. A classification of seals has been made. The forms of the seals, their sizes, the material of which they are produced and the way they set a seal to the documents are defined. It is established that Cossack seals are important sources of history of Hetmanate, historical geography, administrative system, heraldry emblem. The exceptional role of sphragistic collection of Chernigiv History museum named by V.Tarnovsky in studding Cossack seals was marked.
