Essay

The aim of this doctors thesis is to present the main tendencies in the Polish and Ukrainian music of the XX century, and the first half of the XX century. The basis for understanding of Lvovs composers both Polish and Ukrainian, is the knowledge of the path which they had pursued in becoming what they were. For this reason equal attention has been paid not only to music but also literary and social background. The interaction between both cultures has resulted in a considerable mixture of music tendencies and sources. Both Ukrainian and Polish music was composed on the basis of analogy, with the main themes coming from folk.
