Essay

Ukrainian and foreign historiography of the Ukrainian zemstwa is surveyed in generalized outline. Systematic and analytical outline of the contribution of historiography and of archeographic of the above mentioned problem is given for the period of 1864 - 2001. The thesis sheds light on the issue of informative and of conceptual importance of this contribution for comprehension of key aspects in Ukraine's new and newest history of Russian empire in general.
