Essay

This dissertation tackles the problem of influence of women's liberation movement upon the development of English word-stock., the formation of feminist lexicon within the English lexicon. Emphasis is laid on the ways and mechanisms of this influence. Also researched are the peculiarities of feminist neology of inner, theoretical discourse of modern feminism and of the results of social response. The main directions (vectors) of lexical enrichment under the influence of feminism are also revealed: inner vector (theoretical one) and outer vector (social reaction). Different typologies of feminist neology are presented (formal classification, based on structural approach and derivation); the detailed thematic classification based on the semantic, siciolinguistic and praxiolinguistic approaches is given. Thematic groups of the neologisms concentrated around the core concepts with the "concept constant" are presented, the subgroups of the lexis are singled out. The feminist aspects of the language planning are researched; variants of gender-neutral items are analysed. Special attention is given to the 'feminization' of the occupational titles.
