Object is the animal story by Ch. Roberts.The aim to analise the animal story by Ch. Roberts. Methods - socio-cultural principle of the analysis, method of content-analysis. In Ukrainian literary studies the thesis is the first attempt of analysing Ch. Roberts' creative activity, the peculiarities of his artistic style in the context of national English-Canadian literature in the period of its formation. This dissertation is dedicated to Ch. Roberts' place in the history of Canadian literature and his peculiar contribution to its development. The work focuses on the specificity of the key genre - animal story, its poetological and style transformations against the background of European, Indian and American literary artistic traditions in their amalgamation. For the first time the analysis of the specific character of Ch. Roberts' works in the context of Canadian and European literatures of "the turn of the centuries" is undertaken. The research presented defines an animal story as the key genre ofEnglish-Canadian literature, formed on the basis of the Collonial little prose under the influence of European cultural traditions. Its place and role, the premises for its origin, the process of its formation are under study in the thesis. The national variants of Canadian animal story of the end of the XIXth century are analysed. The sphere of use is training courses.
