Palytsya G. Linguistic Manifestations of Gender Properties in English Literary Texts (A Study of the 20-th Century American Fiction)

The thesis deals with the problem of peripheral plurality in lexical and lexicо-grammatical means at morphological, lexical and syntactical levels. The paper suggests the analysis of the word semantic structure through the correlation of its grammatically relevant component - the seme of plurality - with the semes of localization, temporality, quality and the word grammatical form The plurality meaning gradation, in which the role of localization, temporality and quality is specified, presents the essence of the thesis. There have been worked out the diateses, demonstrating the correlation of form and content in nouns, verbs and adjectives. The analysis has established the peculiarity of the plurality meaning expression in the sentence. The functional-semantic patterns of the superficial and profound structures asymmetry have been created; character and function of asymmetry in sentences with plurality meaning have been singled out.
