Essay

A study has been carried out on the influence of the adsorption modification of highly disperse silica surface by polyvinylpyrrolidone on its physicochemical properties in order to develop new sorbents for medicinal purposes. The mechanism of the polyvinylpyrrolidone adsorption on highly disperse silica, the structure of polymer surface layer formed, the adsorption properties of modified surface, and the rheological properties of aqueous suspensions of the sorbent have been studied by means of adsorption, IR and UV spectroscopies, thermal gravimetry, photon correlation spectroscopy, and rheological methods. It has been shown that the modification of highly disperse silica surface by polyvinylpyrrolidone allows us to change purposefully the chemical nature for regulating its sorption properties and the mechanism of the sorbate - sorbent interaction at the interfaces as well as the rheological properties of the aqueous suspensions of highly disperse silica, and to develop the preparations of prolonged action.
