Essay

The general regularities of the genre evolution of ode in the European literature of the end of the 18th - the first part of the 19th centuries on the border of two great epochs such as rhetorical and post- rhetorical are investigated in the dissertation. The genre conceptions in the modern Ukrainian and foreign literary criticism are analyzed and two aspects of the genre interpretation of ode in the transition period are substantiated: 1) idea-semantic complex and 2) world of word images of a literary work. The main periods of the development of ode in European literature are defined: antique, Renaissance, Classicist, Romantic and post-rhetorical. Special attention paid to the history of ode in Ukrainian literature from J. Drohobych to M. Zerov. The investigation focuses upon the transition from the genre norms to genre traditions and interpretation of this process in the creative works of F.G. Klopstock, G. Derzavin, F. Goelderlin and F. Tyutchev. The interpretation of the creative works is basedon the general principles of the theory of genre as "memory of art" (M. Bakhtin).
