The dissertation developed the methodology of liminal research of literary texts, traced liminal processes in Contemporary Ukrainian drama in the context of artistic (especially theatrical) trends. The paradigm of liminal processes occurring in contemporary drama at the levels of content and form, as well as during representation in the cultural field, is considered on the basis of the plays of modern Ukrainian playwrights, works from various fields of knowledge, which relate to the stages of awareness of the concept of liminality. The concept of liminality was introduced into the literary discourse as an effective methodology for the study of boundary literary-theatrical processes and phenomena and demonstrated on the extensive material of contemporary Ukrainian drama. The genre matrix of the ritual of passage is shown as a way of embodying liminal aesthetics and as a method of interpreting an artistic text of a liminal nature. The transformation of the drama of the 20th century − beginning is traced. 21st century, a complex of the main invariant and variable features of the contemporary Ukrainian drama is defined, the specifics of the thematic range and the connection with the general nature of world artistic processes, the specifics of the conflict, characters, plot structure, the specifics of the chronotope, the speech organization of contemporary drama are shown. Genre-genre codification of contemporary drama was carried out, «draft aesthetics» was characterized. On the example of contemporary Ukrainian drama, the specifics of the implementation of the genre matrix of the ritual of transition as an author’s artistic strategy are considered. The works of modern Ukrainian playwrights N. Vorozhbyt, P. Aryeh, A. Bondarenko, K. Penkova, T. Kytsenko, L. Tymoshenko, N. Blok, Lena Lyagushonkova and others are included in the context of the study. For the study of boundary phenomena in literary studies, a number of theoretical concepts are proposed in the author’s formulation: liminal phase (stage), liminal space-time, liminal position, liminal object, genre liminality, intermedia liminality, receptive liminality, liminality of the turn of epochs; liminal epoch. The creative activity of the theater group «Garmyder» with a pronounced liminal aesthetic was studied in the context of the interaction of dramaturgy and modern theater projects.
