Topographic description of Ukraine in the end of 18 - beginning of 19 century (the problem of attribution and informative representativeness of sources). Special group of sources, the result of economic-geographical and historico-ethnographical description. To present fundamental appreciation of the topographic description as a source on the base of the source-studding analysis of contents of the topographic description and the documents related to their origin. The methods of investigation are comparative-historical, historico-comparative, simulation method. The historical circumstances, that led to appearance of such kind of documents, had been defined by the dissertation, the main customer of the topographic research had been determined, the conditions of the further function of topographic descriptions in informational environment of that times had been characterised.Also in the study for the first time the try of well - grounded source -scientific analysis of the whole complex of information published on the pages of topographic description about social-economic and cultural development of Ukraine in the end of XVIII - beginning of XIX cent had been carried out. The spheres of use are the scientific-research process, training courses.
