Essay

Individual variation and inter-specific distinctions in four species of wood mice from Ukraine fauna has been studied. Diagnostic significance of various characters was studied using both univeriate and multiple statistical techniques. The borders of specific geographic ranges were specified. Variation in size and shape has been in its connection with growth patterns and inter-specific aliometry. Sexual dimorphism was also discribed. The algorithms of species identification using various combination of characters have been developed. They can be used for analyssis different specimens.
