Essay

The research focuses on the study of peculiarities in English Drama personages' communicative behaviour, caused by gender. The personages' utterances reflect the knowledge of playwrights of the communicative behaviour stereotypes in present-day society. Male personages' communicative behaviour is characterized by the usage of speech acts strengthening the status of the addressee, as well as strategies of dominance demonstrating man's leading position in the diad "man - woman". Female personages, on the contrary, use speech acts, which intensify the status of both interlocutors. Strategies of cooperation that testify to their respect to male-interlocutors are typical of female-personages communicative behaviour. The language lexical and stylistic means also display the gender verbal behaviour.
