Object of the study:Condition of health in schoolchildren. Purpose of the study:To work out an effective method of vitamin insufficiency prevention in schoolchildren basing on the study of clinical signs of vitamin insufficiency, the state of mental and physical working ability and the amount of retinol, beta-carotene, tocopherol, cyanocobolamin, ascorbic and folic acids in the blood serum. Methods of the investigation:Vitamin provision in children was evaluated using the findings of clinical laboratory studied performed in autumn and winter. Physical development was evaluated using anthropometrical studies, physical working ability with step-test, mental working ability with studying the ability to receive information per a unit of time, the state of vegetative regulation was studied with Kerdo's test. Microbiocenosis of the intestine and frequency of illness were investigated. Theoretical and practical results:The findings of the research allowed to recommend preventive polyvitamin preparation "Undevit" for administration by schoolchildren of all forms of education and with various condition of health. Six-months administration of "Undevit" prevented hypovitaminosis, reduction of physical and mental ability to work observed by the end of the academic year, undesir-able changes in the biocenosis of the large intestine. Administration of "Undevit" in addition to the regular diet of schoolchildren increased the organism resistance to infections, reduced the incidence of chronic diseases exacerbations. Novelty:The possibility and safety of preventive administration of polyvitamin preparation "Undevit" in schoolchildren of all age-groups with the purpose to increase the incidence of clinical manifestations of hypovitaminosios, preserving physical and mental working ability, reduction of frequency of illness was proved for the first time. It was shown that 6-months administration of polyvitamin preparation "Undevit" controls dysvitaminosis in schoolchildren and did not increase the amount of retinol, beta-carotene, cyanocobolamin, ascorbic and folic acids higher than mean hygienic ranges and that of tocopherol - higher age parameters. It was determined that 6-months administration of the polyvitamin preparation positively influences the state of vegetative regulation of the cardiovascular system, biocenosis of the large intestine in schoolchildren. Degree of introduction:The results of the research are used in the work of city children's hospitals and out-patient departments No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 (Zaporozhie), central district hospitals (Vilniansk and Melitopol), 2nd children's department of city clinical hospital (Dnepropetrovsk), regional children's hospital (Nikolaev). The recommendations were introduced into the work of Khortitsa restoration general center, Terpinivska boarding school (Melitopol district), Novonikolaevskaya boarding school. The material of the research are used in the teaching process at Zaporozhie State Medical University, Zaporozhie Institute for Post-graduate Training of Doctors.
