Essay

The object of study - diplomatic and military contacts between Rome and Great Armenia, as direct, as mediate through the relation with the third countries, and political history of Rome and Great Armenia. The purpose of research is history of development of the Rome-Armenian relations in the Іst Century BC - the beginning of the Іst Century AD and definition of their influence on transformation of a situation of Great Armenia in region, on evolution of Rome east policy and on development of international conditions in Forward Asia as a whole. The methods used in the research are: chronological, synchronous, diachronous, comparative-historical, method of the complex analysis of sources, method of the system analysis. The dissertation is devoted to the history of the Rome - Armenian relations in the Ist Century BC - the beginning of the Ist Century AD. In the work it is shown, that the majority of the Armenian kings was eager to adjust friendly terms with Romans. With the help of the union with Rome the kings of Great Armenia tried to resist the growing expansion of Parthia. Less consecutive was the policy of Rome concerning the Armenian kingdom. The result of Rome-Armenian relations in the Ist Century BC - the beginning of the Ist Century AD became losing of power of Great Armenia and transformation of the Armenian kingdom into the minor state. A policy of Rome in the second half of the Ist Century BC promoted strengthening of separative moods among the Armenian nobility. The decline of Great Armenia negatively reflected on the policy of Romans in region as they have lost the trustworthy allien and were compelled to take constant care of maintenance of the influence in Armenia.
