Maga I. Victor Oleksandrovych Romanovskyi - a historian and an archivist.

Dissertation for a degree of the Candidate of Historical Sciences on speciality 07.00.06 - Historiography, Source Study and Special Historical Disciplines. Ukrainian Research Institute for Archives and Record Studies, State Committee on Archives of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2003. The dissertation devoted to investigation of the life and creative activity of a historian, specialist in the field of source study and archeography, a well-known Ukrainian archivist, the initiator of preparing the archival training literature, pedagogue V.O.Romanovskyi (1890-1971). In the dissertation on the basis of investigating the problem's historiography and a wide-range of primary historical sources from the Ukrainian and Russian archives, as well as Romanovskyi's scientific heritage, it is described the scholar's contribution to learning some problems of the Ukrainian history, such as financial and economic system of Hetmanate in the second half of the 17th - at the beginning of the 18th century, problems of source and archival studies, and special branches of history. Also the main trends in historian's researches are determined. It is reconstructed the process of Romanovskyi's formation as a historian and archivist, and defined the factors that had influence on the formation of his scientific views, character and content of his research works. It was first systematised and completely analysed in the Ukrainian historiography Romanovskyi's archival and scientific heritage, his achievements in investigating the problems of archival history, theory and practice, the methods of archival document integration, description and preservation. Besides, Romanovskyi's scientific, organisational and pedagogic activity was analysed, bibliography of his works was compiled.
