Essay

The subject – life way and scientific activities of F. Leontovich. The object – scientific, pedagogical and social activities of F. Leontovich, methodology of his scientific work, historical views, interpretation of historical sourses about history of Slavs, Rus's lands in days of Kievan Rus and Great princedom Lithuanian. Purpose – all-round reconstruction of F. Leontovich's life and scientific activity. Methods – biohistoriographic, historical - comparative, contextual reconstruction of learned's historical conception, concrete historical, logical, historical - typological and retrospective. In the dissertation the life and scientific activity of the historian of the right of Fedor Ivanovych Leontovych (1833-1910) is covered on the basis of analysis of sources and literatures. The basic stages of his life are considered. The main attention is given F. Leontovych's administrative and pedagogical activity in the south of Ukraine in Odessa by Novorossiysky University. The place of the scientist in a public life of Odessa is shown. Becoming and evolution of hishistorical sights is analyzed. Attempt to find out feature of theoretical-methodological and a concept ual sight of the historian is done. It is marked, that in his scientific outlook elements of pan Slavism, populism and positivism were united. It is specified, that scientific activity of the scientist rendered significant influence on expansion of researches of a medieval history of Slavs. In particular F. Leontovych has submitted original development of the important problems of a history of the Ukrainian grounds in days of Kievan Rus and the Great princedom Lithuanian. The „zadruzno-communal” theory which was offered by the historian as model of political development of peoples in days of the Middle Ages had the important influence on methodology of studying of the Rus grounds. It is marked, that the scientist was the supporter of „communal-zemsky” directions in studying a history of the Rus’. Scientist was one of the founders of the Kyiv school of historians of western-Russian right, which activity was of great importance for research of a history of the Ukrainian grounds in structure of the Great princedom Lithuanian.
