The object of the research is the most frequent English scientific verbs functioning in monographies in Physics and Mathematics. The aim of the research is a study of creative mechanisms and principal regularities of changes in semantic structure when creating scientific meanings of English verbs. The methods of the research are conceptual, semantic and statistic analyses. Theoretical results and novelty: the original conceptual spheres of English scientific verbs are determined, lexico-semantic groups of primary meanings of these verbs are distinguished, semantic potential of these groups for secondary nomination is evaluated, the scheme of their development is built up, the principal tendencies in polysemy of verbs under analysis are established. Practical results: teaching lexicology, stylistics. The sphere of application: lexicology and lexicography.
