Essay

The Object is short fiction by Henry James . The aim is to reveal the stylistic peculiarities of James's nouvelles, define the nature of genre innovations in short fiction by H.James, the scale of influence on the development of the XX century literary process. Methods of investigation the implication of historical principles of approach in the system analysis of texts, alongside with the usage of poetological, lirerary analysis. The new approach to the definition of the stylistic transformations and the nature of the aesthetic synthesis in the short fiction of James which is different from those, traditional in our science is proposed in the dissertation. The difficult interrelation of the stylistic transformations and genre peculiarities of James short fiction is investigated; it's proved that so-called "genre vagueness" of many works by James isn't the lack of ingenuity, but the consequence of the conscious modernisation of literature, notions "plot", "composition", "hero", "reader", which is particulary felt in the nouvelles of the "middle" and "late" phases. The work disproves the idea of James's short fiction minority in comparison with his novels, it's proved that this genre is far from being "small" from artistic point of view . The sphere of use is training courses.
