3. The dissertation focuses on the study of proper names as compositional factors of American poetic texts. In the paper the notions of composition and compositional structure of poetic texts are highlighted within the framework of cognitive poetics. The application of methodology characteristic of modern linguistic communicative and cognitive paradigm made it possible to construct conceptual schemas of compositional structures and to build their generalized model which shows the order in which semantic slots are verbalized and chained in poetic texts' fragments. The research revealed compositional strategies and tactics through the analysis of proper names' functions and positions in poetic texts.The study of onomastic vocabulary in American poetic texts allowed to assert that during the 20-th century proper names evolved into compositional devices due to their narrativity gained in the process of cultural and historical development of American community.
