Tkachivska M. Combinability and Functional Peculiarities of Adjectives for Portrait Description of Man in Modern German.

The dissertation highlights the state of combinability study problem in linguistic science. The classification of adjectives for portraying person's appearance is based on the analysis of adjective in modern German grammar books and obtained from the factual material of German belle-letters prose. It consists of nineteen semantic groups. Each group of adjectives is analyzed semantically. Semantic shades of most frequent adjectives are considered, and there essential and inessential connections are revealed. With the help of statistic methods syntagmatic and paradigmatic adjective relations were investigated. Trough the analysis of the individual styles of German-writing authors there where established their similarities and differences.
