Object is the novel by D.Coupland "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture" (1991), "Shampoo Planet" (1992), "Life after God" (1994), "Microserfs" (1995).The aim to analyse the artistic and compositional specificity of a phenomenon of the novel " Generation Х ", and other novels by D.Coupland in a social and cultural variables context of processes and art opening of the last decade of the 20th century. Methods - historical-comparative, culturologycal, complex analysis. This dissertation presents research findings into the works of the modern Anglo-Canadian writer Douglas Coupland, specifically his notable novel "Generation X: Tales for Accelerated Culture" (1990). The peculiarities of Coupland's artistic phenomenon are viewed in the context of the most significant historical, social and cultural variables characteristic of the last decade of the 20th century. Coupland's literary works are analyzed within the framework of their correlation with preceding and contemporary literature. The researchfocuses on the artistic and compositional specificity of "Generation X", characterized by the original approach to the conceptual treatment of generation gap problems and by the innovative textual format, such as hypertext literature. The major emphasis is made on the multifaceted plot developed on different textual levels, employment of verbal and visual marginal glosses expanding the novel's semantic domain.
