The object of the research is the expressive speech acts of negative emotionality as the minimal units of the discourse of negative emotionality. The aim of the research is to clarify the status and historical changes of the expressive speech acts of negative emotionality in the English discourse of the 16th – 20th centuries on the basis of the systemic-activity oriented historic-pragmatic approach. The methods of the research are speech acts modelling, analyses of context, situation, functioning, structural-semantic analysis, elements of methods of psycho-, socio- and cognitive linguistics. Theoretical results and novelty: the essence of the discourse of negative emotionality is defined, the expressive speech act of negative emotionality as its minimal unit is described and the pragmatic status of that speech act is specified, the pragmatic-semantic subtypes of the expressive speech acts of negative emotionality are distinguished, their diachronic invariant and variants are determined, the main tendencies of their variation in the English discourse of the 16th – 20th centuries are established. Practical results: teaching the English language history ("Syntax", "Lexicology"), theoretical and practical grammar of the English language ("Syntax", "Pragmatics of the sentence"), stylistics. The sphere of application: historical pragmatics.
